Dissections is a panel discussion presented as part of DHC/ART’s program of public events designed to encourage an exchange of thoughts and impressions on contemporary art.

Each presenter will speak to a variety of concepts and ideas inspired by works in the current exhibition Ryoji Ikeda which may also find common ground with their own research interests. After the presentations, all will be invited to take part in an enlivened discussion.

Gisèle Trudel produces art projects under the name Ælab, an artistic research unit founded in 1996 with musician and sound engineer, Stéphane Claude. Together they explore relationships between nature and technology with an ecological approach that links art and science. Their work has been presented in Canada, in Europe and Asia and has received support from the CAC, CALQ, FQRSC and the Daniel Langlois Foundation. Trudel is also professor in the École des arts visuels et médiatiques (UQÀM), Director of HexagramUQÀM and Co-Director of HexagramCIAM.

Yan Breuleux has a Masters degree in industrial design (M.SC.A), who specializes in the domain of audio-visual performance for immersive video devices. Over the last ten years, he has collaborated with composers for the creation of multi-screen, hemispheric panorama works as well as architectural ‘video mappings’. Performances with his duo PURFORM have been presented as part of many digital arts festivals in Europe and Asia. He is currently a PhD candidate in electroacoustic composition.
Eldad Tsabary is a composer and professor of electroacoustic ear training, composition, and live practices at Concordia University, founder and director of Concordia Laptop Orchestra, which performs regularly both locally and telematically, and VP of the Canadian Electroacoustic Community. He organized Hug The World 2012 – a telematic jam session involving 23 locations, 60×60 Order of Magnitude – a music/dance/video show involving music by 600 composers, symposia including Understanding Visual Music and Concordia Live and Interactive Electroacoustic Colloquium, among others.
Sha Xin Wei, Ph.D. was trained in mathematics at Harvard & Stanford Universities, and is Associate Professor in Fine Arts and Engineering & Computer Science. Dr. Sha’s primary interests lie in critical studies of media arts, science, & technology. His theoretical work explores gesture, distributed agency and materiality in kinetic and body-based media, and in responsive environments. Present areas of experimental focus include movement art and poetic architecture.
