After Sydney, Tokyo and London earlier this year, the exhibition comes to Montreal

Red Bull Music Academy and Phi present the North American premiere of Björk Digital, in association with DHC/ART Foundation for Contemporary Art. This exhibition by the singular musician, organized by the Manchester International Festival is on view at DHC/ART from October 15 to November 12, 2016.

Björk Digital allows visitors to connect, on many levels, with the works, message and heart of this Icelandic artist through five virtual reality experiences, video screenings and a hands-on educational space.

Virtual reality experiences feature, among others: the world premiere of Family, directed by Andrew Thomas Huang, with co-creative direction by Björk and James Merry.

Family for me is the centre piece of the Vulnicura VR album and I am so thrilled to complete this with Andy and James. We tried to capture with virtual reality the metaphysical journey of healing of a heartwound and hope the audience will be able to experience it with us!”, says Björk.

Stonemilker VR and Black Lake (also both directed by Andrew Thomas Huang), Mouth Mantra VR (directed by Jesse Kanda) and Quicksand VR (collaboration with Dentsu Lab Tokyo) complete our virtual reality program for this exhibition.

Björk Cinema presents, on the big screen, a curated selection of remastered Björk music videos, including favourites directed by Michel Gondry, Sophie Muller, Chris Cunningham and Spike Jonze. Finally, Biophilia is a wide-ranging artistic and educational project launched by Björk in 2011 that gives visitors the opportunity to interact with the app created around the Biophilia album.

Opening Hours

Monday: closed
Tuesday to Sunday: visitors will be admitted starting at noon, and every 15 minutes until 7:30 PM.

We kindly ask that you arrive at 451 St-Jean Street 15 minutes before the time indicated on your admission ticket. Entry times are strictly enforced and capacity is limited. We cannot guarantee entry if you are late. Allow 90 minutes to journey through this part of the exhibition.

Red Bull Music Academy

The 18th edition of the Red Bull Music Academy will take place in Montreal from September 24 to October 28, 2016, bringing together 70 hand-selected producers, vocalists, beat-makers, instrumentalists and DJs from 38 countries. They will attend intimate lecture sessions and collaborate on music in an expansive, custom-built creative studio space, contained within the multidisciplinary arts and culture hub in the Old Montreal neighborhood, the Phi Centre. The Red Bull Music Academy has been pairing music legends and emerging beatsmiths in cities such as Berlin, Cape Town, Melbourne, Barcelona, Rome, São Paulo, London, Tokyo and New York City. This unique combination of old school knowledge and new school sounds is unrivalled for its creative exploration and achievement.

The Phi Centre

The Phi Centre is a versatile space with venues that adapt to accommodate the event at hand: launches, conferences, seminars, screenings, exhibitions, concerts, performances, interactive installations. It has creative studios and production suites equipped with the latest technology for all artistic needs. It’s a multifunctional centre where art can express itself in its various forms.
